The IWW Is Committed To Supporting Our Members During COVID-19

Fellow Workers,

As cities and industries shut down due to the COVID-19 spread, the IWW is continuing to assist our fellow workers, whether they are classified as essential employees or if they are furloughed and unemployed. The work of the union continues and our Organizing Department is continuing to provide assistance to campaigns across North America in these times.

We are still providing campaigns with the help they need to continue organizing, albeit from a distance. Please check with your branch or Organizing Department Liaison for more information.

Membership branches, Industrial Union Branches, and other committees are encouraged to use online platforms for their meetings. This will help to build the One Big Union from a distance so that campaigns do not suffer from lack of physical meeting space. If your branch does not have access to an online meeting platform, please reach out to the General Executive Board.

Lastly, we are still committed to organizing for hazard pay, safe working conditions, sick leave, and PPE for all essential workers. If you or someone you know is working as an essential employee, but their workplace does not cover these expectations, we encourage you to organize and make these demands of your employer. Many IWW campaigns as of late have organized to win these demands, and the pressure on employers to provide these demands has never been greater.

Though these are indeed troubling times for us all, we remember that the union keeps us strong. Continue to check in on your fellow workers and make sure that they are okay – both mentally and physically. We will make it through this together.

In solidarity!
