The ITF Urban Transport Committee meeting held in Paris on 17 - 19 January 2006; Notes with grave concern the continued detention of Mansour Osanloo, the President of the Executive Board of Syndicate of Workers of Teheran and Suburbs United Bus Company; Further notes with concern the management harassment to the every-day activities of the union including the closure of the union bank account; Welcomes the release of the other unionists who were jailed in late December 2005 for "illegal activities"; Disagrees entirely with and condemns allegations that Mansour Osanloo is "connected to Iranian political organisations abroad opposing the regime" and "maintaining relations with and receiving financial support from a foreign power" when these charges are directly related to his international trade union work; Welcomes the solidarity expressed by the transport workers' unions in the Arab World as well as the unions in the Nordic countries, Germany, Great Britain, United States; Demands, together with the ICFTU and the Global Unions partners, the immediate release of Mansour Osanloo who is in need of an urgent eye-surgery; Further demands that all charges against him be dropped and harassment to the union's activities be ceased without any delay; Calls upon the trade unions around the world to further support the Teheran bus workers and their union by raising their voice towards the government and the management. |
