Solidarity message to: Reza Shahabi,
Treasurer and member of the board of directors of Syndicate of
Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company- Evin Prison, Tehran, Iran.
Dear Reza,
We have been informed that you have gone on dry hunger
strike since December 4, 2010 to protest against your unjust
incarceration and the refusal of authorities to release you. We
are writing this to express our support and solidarity with you. We
strongly condemn your unjust arrest and continued detention and
we support your position that the government must free you immediately and
unconditionally. We will do our best to continue pressuring the Iranian government
through labour activists and organizations around the world to free all
jailed workers and to put an end to persecution of labour activists in
Iran. No government can stop or silence labour movement. However, you
know better than all of us that this struggles is long and continuous.
Therefore, we sincerely urge you to end your hunger
strike because in this struggle the labour movement would need all its
activists and leaders.
We once again express our solidarity with workers in Iran and demand
the immediate and unconditional freedom of all jailed labour activists.
In solidarity,
Edgar Godoy, President, CUPE Local 2191
Denise Hammond, President CUPE Local 1281
