Some Quick Updates:
May 12, 2007- According to the latest information by the Dismissed and Unemployed Workers Union and The Collaborative Council of Labour Organizations and Activists in Iran, all arrested workers on May Day in Sanandaj have been released on bail, following ten days of detention and numerous protests and follow ups by their colleagues and family members, with the exception of Mr. Sheys Amani, the President of Dismissed and Unemployed Workers Union and Mr. Sedigh Karimi, a member of the board of directors of the union. These two labour activists have been charges with disturbing public order. Mr. Amani has also been charged with agitating workers against the government.
According to the latest news, Mahmoud Salehi, who is still in sanandaj’s Prison, has been transferred to a section assigned for prisoners with addictions after he helped to organize a May Day Celebration in prison, in which he spoke and prisoners sang anthems and distributed sweets. According to the latest reports Salehi’s health has been deteriorating. Najibeh Salehzadeh, Mahmoud’s wife, has issued a statement in which she has thanked all workers and freedom loving people in Iran and aboard and unions for their campaigns and efforts for the release of Salehi. It is important to mention that one main demand of all workers’ demonstrations on May Day in Iran was for the immediate freedom of Mahmoud Salehi.
