IndustriALL and Lukoil renew global agreement

12.06.2018

The renewed agreement reaffirms the labour and social commitments of one of the largest publicly traded Russian-based oil and gas companies, employing more than 100,000. Lukoil accounts for more than 2 per cent of the world’s oil production and owns around 1 per cent of the hydrocarbon reserves.

The global framework agreement (GFA) was signed at Lukoil headquarters in Moscow on 4 June, with the participation of Vagit Alekperov, president and CEO of Lukoil, Valter Sanches, IndustriALL general secretary, Alexander Korchagin, President of ROGWU (Russian Oil, Gas and Construction Workers’ Union) and Georgy Kiradiev, President of the International Association of Trade Union Organizations of Lukoil.

The renewed GFA protects the interests of Lukoil employees, sets standards in the field of trade union rights, labour safety, environmental protection, as well as creating common working conditions at all operations around the world. The parties have undertaken to comply with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy, the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The GFA was first signed in 2004 and last renewed in 2012. It will be valid for one year and extended automatically if neither party expresses its intention to terminate it.

Vagit Alekperov said:

“It is a great honor to renew agreement for Lukoil, which today operates in more than 50 countries and in almost 60 regions of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that our сompany is private, it is characterized as a socially responsible. The agreement will once again emphasize that we will continue to fulfill all obligations under collective agreements.”

Valter Sanches commented,

“I am proud of the labour relations we have built with Lukoil since 2004. We hope that the re-signing of the GFA will encourage other Russian multinational companies to follow the same path.”

Lukoil owns oil-processing operations outside of Russia in Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, and the Netherlands. Lukoil is involved in the implementation of a series of projects for the exploration and development of structures and deposits in countries such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Ghana, Romania.
