The killing of Shahrokh Zamani in the prison of the capitalist Islamic Republic of Iran took place within the context of a new round of attacks on the working class and labour activists, which included the arrest of Ali Nejati of sugarcane workers’ syndicate, nine-year prison sentence for veteran labour activist Mahmoud Salehi, adding three more years of incarceration for jailed teacher Rasoul Bodaghi  after finishing his six-year prison term, and seven and a half years sentence against imprisoned worker Behnam Ebrahimzadeh after enduring five years of imprisonment. Hundreds of other labour activists are being persecuted on daily basis.
